Before 1996, there were no specialized photovoltaic connectors available. Photovoltaic cables were connected using universal screw terminals or splice connections, insulated with tape. In 1996, in response to the application environment and market demands, a new type of plug-in connector emerged, known as the MC3, marking the introduction of the true photovoltaic connector. In 2002, the MC4 was developed, redefining photovoltaic connectors with a "plug and play" functionality. The MC4 utilized hard plastic (PC/PA) for insulation, making it easier to assemble and install on-site. After its introduction, the MC4 quickly gained market recognition and gradually became the standard for photovoltaic connectors.
